Since, our opening it has been our endeavor to infuse our students with industry-relevant skills and a high level of practical aptitude. This is a challenge and an objective that we continue to pursue to this day.

Founded in 1979 and managed by AMSI, Al Mawakeb School provides a comprehensive university preparatory education to a student body of over 5,500 (on both campuses: Al Garhoud and Al Barsha) of diverse backgrounds and nationalities. In May 2010, Al Mawakeb School earned a five-year full term accreditation from AdvancED, an American education community that serves over 27,000 private and public schools in the US and 69 countries worldwide. Although our medium of instruction is English, we follow a unique trilingual education program in English, French, and Arabic which enables our graduates to pursue higher education worldwide. The students begin studying the English, French, and Arabic languages as of Kindergarten. Students of Grade 10, 11, 12 follow an academic US-style curriculum (equivalent to a US Grade 12 Diploma). American College of Dubai (ACD) has become a StraighterLine Middle East partner which means students who complete Straighter Line online courses can use them as transfer credit towards ACD degrees (20 September 2010 press release).

StraighterLine offers online courses and programs for $99 per month plus $39 per course. Programs available include Accounting, Business Statistics, College Algebra, English Composition, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Precalculus.

Unlike many online degree mills, StraighterLine is not a scam according to a Washington Post report 26 February 2010 which said … StraighterLine, based in Alexandria, is a serious education company …

A new MSc in Aviation Security will be offered by Emirates Aviation College starting January 2011 (Khaleej Times report 10 August 2010).

Program content will cover managment of security issues and knowledge of security equipment at airports. The MSc is aimed at security officials involved in security of aircraft, airports, and cargo operations.

Course will not be available to just anyone. Dr Ahmad Al Ali, Vice Chancellor of the Emirates Aviation College said in the KT report “Because of the sensitivity of the course content that will be shared with the students it will not be offered to everyone, and every individual will be subjected to intensive background checks by Dubai Police and the aviation authority for eligibility.”

Further details not found on the EAC website, not clear if the new MSc is related to the EAC MBA in Aviation Safety and Security (announced in March 2010?).
