Canadian University Dubai (CUD) Launches Degree Program In Climate Change In Partnership With University Of Prince Edward Island

Canadian University Dubai (CUD) is offering UAE students a facility to complete a unique degree program combining Environmental Studies and Climate Change, beginning in Dubai and wrapping up in Canada, in partnership with the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), one of the prestigious universities of Canada.

The program will be of intense interest to UAE students keen on pursuing studies in climate change, while at the same time supporting the UAE National Climate Change Plan, which calls for the reorientation and upgrading of higher education curricula to prepare the future workforce for the green economy.

The agreement, which was signed recently by CUD Chancellor Mr. Buti Saeed Al Ghandi and UPEI President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Alaa Abd El-Aziz, allows students to do a two-year course in CUD’s Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health Management program and then transfer to Canada where they can complete their studies in Environment and Climate Change at UPEI campus.

Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Buti Saeed Al Ghandi said that at a time when climate change has become a major issue for our world, the linking of the innovative UPEI program to CUD’s existing Environmental Studies portfolio offers students an exciting new career pathway and enhances CUD’s reputation as an academic institution committed to providing relevant educational opportunities for society in the 21st century.

Speaking after the ceremony, Dr. Alaa said the arrangement represents a wonderful opportunity for Dubai students to come to Canada and experience the welcoming atmosphere of a Canadian Institution, where they would immediately feel at home. Reflecting on his own experience of CUD, he added that students from Canada who wished to study at CUD would feel the same.

UPEI, established in 1969, has earned a strong reputation as a leader in education, research, innovation and academic excellence. UPEI is among the many Canadian universities that hold a general partnership agreement with CUD, providing for a range of different collaboration opportunities, including student transfer and further education.

This new collaboration will further cement CUD’s ties with University of Prince Edward Island  and lays the foundations for the development of a co-degree combining environmental studies, environmental sciences and climate change, which students could complete either in Dubai or in Canada.
