Repton Dubai is proud to highlight the achievement of Year 11 student Viktoria Leusheva, 15, following the launch of the latest version of her ‘Vika’app —a pioneering AI-assisted rhythmic gymnastics judging app designed to provide athletes with transparent and objective performance feedback.

The launch also marks the introduction of the Vika DubAI Open 2026, an international online rhythmic gymnastics tournament open to participants worldwide.

Inspired by her own experience as a competitive gymnast, Viktoria developed the Vika app to help athletes better understand how routines are evaluated and to address concerns around subjectivity in judging. The platform allows gymnasts to upload routines for professional evaluation by Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) brevet judges, while AI tools help interpret scoring data, visualise performance insights and track athlete progress over time.

The project began when Viktoria was 13 and became increasingly interested in how technology could support fairer and more consistent performance analysis in gymnastics competitions.Now live globally, the app has grown to more than 3,000 active users across countries including the United States, Brazil, China, Japan and the Middle East.

Building on the platform’s international growth, Viktoria also launched the Vika DubAI Open 2026 on 1^st June, currently underway and expected to attract up to 1,000 athletes globally. The online competition features 10 categories, with participants placement rankings alongside performance grades designed to provide a clearer benchmark of technical achievement. Submissions will remain open until 15^th July, with results announced before 15^th August.

With support from Repton Dubai, Viktoria has also begun discussions with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) to explore future opportunities to expand the app’s AI capabilities through automated video analysis as part of a planned Year 12 project.

Saiqah Amin, Head of Computer Science at Repton Dubai, said: “Viktoria’s project reflects the creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking we encourage at Repton Dubai. Her ability to combine competitive sporting experience with emerging technologies to solve real challenges within gymnastics is an outstanding achievement, particularly at such a young age.”

Speaking about her hopes for the app, Viktoria Leusheva said: “I sincerely hope that my application will help athletes realise their potential and enable national team coaches from different countries to notice the brightest talents. It is very important to me that the application is being developed in one of the world’s key centres of artificial intelligence—Dubai.”

Looking ahead, Viktoria hopes to further expand the platform through future AI-supported features focused on athlete wellbeing, including injury prevention tools.

Alongside developing the app, Viktoria trained in rhythmic gymnastics for nine years and has won multiple international titles, including first place at the UAE International Gymnastika Cup 2023 and the GCC Grand Series Championship in Rhythmic Gymnastics 2022.

Innovative International Baccalaureate (IB) school, is celebrating the remarkable achievement of Grade 8 student Ashray Jijikumar, who secured first place in the 13–18 Years General Category at the Dubai Culture Imagination Heroes Grand Final, held on 04 June 2026 during the Dubai Esports and Games Festival (DEF) 2026 at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Competing against students from schools across the UAE, Ashray first earned a place among the top three finalists before being crowned the category winner following a live presentation at GameExpo. The challenge featured six age and category divisions, bringing together young creators to showcase their talents through original character concepts, storytelling, and design.

The Grand Final took place at GameExpo, part of the Dubai Esports and Games Festival, which brought together gaming enthusiasts, creators, industry leaders, and young innovators through a programme of competitions, interactive experiences, and technology-focused activities. The event provided participants with an opportunity to showcase their imagination, storytelling, and design skills within one of the UAE’s leading celebrations of gaming and digital creativity.

The project introduced ‘Finn’, an honourable knight whose story explores friendship, sacrifice, love, and responsibility. More than simply a character design, ‘Finn’ represents a deeply developed narrative built around the difficult choices people face when their values are tested.

Raised alongside his closest friend ‘Kai’, Finn dreams of becoming a warrior who protects others. As the two grow older, their paths begin to diverge. While Finn remains committed to honour and justice, Kai becomes consumed by ambition and the pursuit of power. Their friendship is ultimately tested when Finn is forced to choose between protecting innocent lives and saving the person he cares about most.

The story explores themes of brotherhood beyond blood relations, the tension between power and responsibility, and the emotional cost of doing what is right. Through Finn’s character arc, Ashray sought to demonstrate that true strength is not measured by power, but by compassion, integrity, and the courage to make difficult decisions.

What distinguished Ashray’s submission was the depth of thought behind the character. Before designing Finn’s appearance, he developed the character’s personality, motivations, relationships, and emotional arc, creating a complete narrative that extended far beyond visual design. Every aspect of Finn’s appearance, from his armour and posture to his expressions and visual identity, was intentionally crafted by Ashray to reflect the character’s courage, resilience, and inner conflict.

Ashray further refined the concept using AI-assisted creative tools, evaluating how effectively the design communicated the character’s emotions and story. The result was a project that combined creative writing, character development, visual design, and emerging technology into a cohesive and compelling narrative.The project showcased Ashray’s ability to combine storytelling, character design, and digital creativity, demonstrating how game design can be used to communicate meaningful ideas and narratives.

Creator Ashray Jijikumar shared:“Creating Finn was a journey of bringing a story to life. I wanted to create a character who showed that real strength comes from making difficult choices and standing up for what is right. Winning the finals was an amazing experience and taught me a lot about creativity, perseverance, and storytelling. I am grateful for the encouragement and support I received from my teachers at Bloom World Academy throughout the process.”

The Dubai Culture Imagination Heroes challenge invited students to combine imagination, storytelling, and character creation to develop original concepts capable of inspiring audiences. Ashray’s project stood out for its ability to blend visual creativity with meaningful storytelling, demonstrating skills that span creative writing, design thinking, communication, and digital literacy.

Following Australia’s first-of-its-kind ban on social media for under-16s, and with more than two dozen countries considering similar measures, new global research from Family First, a Varkey Foundation initiative, shows that 63% of UAE parents support a social media ban for under-16s in their country. However, children are more divided: 45% of 9- to 18-year-olds in the UAE back a ban, while 33% are against it, and 22% are undecided. Strikingly, a large majority of Gen Z respondents in the UAE (67%) support banning social media for under-16s, the second highest after India (73%). This is particularly noteworthy given they are the first generation to have grown up with social media from childhood.

The findings come from the world’s first global intergenerational study of family bonding, surveying children, parents, Gen Z and grandparents, with the full results published in June by Family First. This will feature the world’s first Family Bonding Index, which assigns countries a score based on the strength of family connections. The initial results, launched today, highlight differences between generations in their views on banning social media for under-16s in their respective countries.

Family First is a global movement launched by the Varkey Foundation to strengthen intergenerational bonds between children, parents and grandparents, with the aim of building stronger communities across generations. Launched by Sunny Varkey, founder of GEMS Education, the movement reflects a longstanding commitment to fostering strong family values and encouraging greater support between children and parents, contributing to healthier and longer lives. It is rooted in the belief that education goes far beyond academic achievement – it shapes values and develops not only students, but future parents, future leaders, and stronger societies.

Among the countries surveyed, support for a ban among parents is highest in Malaysia (77%), India (75%), and France (74%). Japan records the lowest level of support at 38%, followed by Nigeria (39%) and the US (51%).

Globally, only 37% of children support a ban on social media for under-16s. Support for a ban among young people is highest in Malaysia (62%), India (62%), and China (50%). It is lowest in Japan (20%), Argentina, and Sweden (both 26%).

The data reveals a divide between parents and children throughout the world. In the UAE, there is an 18-point gap between children and their parents in terms of support for a social media ban for under-16s. Australia has the widest generational gap globally (34 points), followed by Sweden (33 points) and Canada (32 points).

The research also showed that the majority of Gen Z (51%) – the first true digital natives – support a social media ban for under-16s. Support for the ban is highest in India (73%), UAE (67%), and Malaysia (65%). Support for the ban is lowest in Japan (28%), UK and Canada (both 40%).

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) today revealed further details of Education 33 (E33), a groundbreaking strategy that aims to transform Dubai’s education system.

Speaking at a press conference held today at the Government of Dubai Media Office, Her Excellency Aisha Miran, Director General of KHDA said: “Education 33 reflects the forward-thinking vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to empower future generations with the skills, knowledge, and values needed to lead in an ever-evolving global environment. This landmark strategy will consolidate Dubai’s status as a global hub for education and innovation.”

Announced yesterday by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, Education 33 marks a new milestone in Dubai’s efforts to create a future-ready education system.

“The new strategy aims to provide every student with a world-class education that meets the highest global standards. While rooted in Emirati values, E33 embraces the rich multiculturalism that defines our city, ensuring that both our heritage and diversity remain integral to the learning experience, Her Excellency Aisha Miran said.

Aligned with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, the E33 strategy signals a transformative shift from a traditional, institution-centred model to a learner-centred education ecosystem. It adapts to the unique needs of every leaner, placing emphasis on a lifelong learning journey. From early childhood through to higher education and beyond, E33 seeks to ensure that every individual is equipped with the skills, opportunities, and knowledge required to succeed at every stage of life and contribute positively in a rapidly evolving job market.

E33 focuses on five strategic goals supported by 28 ‘Game Changer’ initiatives designed to transform the educational landscape across all levels in Dubai. Over the next decade, Dubai will provide truly world-leading education from early childhood to higher education and beyond, embodying the concept of lifelong education.

The strategy includes specific KPIs for each initiative leading up to 2033. These include achieving a 90% satisfaction rate among parents in the education options available in Dubai for their children and minimum 49,000 growth in seat capacity in affordable schools by 2033. The strategy also aims to add 3,000 Emirati teachers to the local workforce by 2033. E33 alsotargets a ten-fold increase in education tourism by 2033 and to attract prestigious international universities to Dubai,
