A report in the Business Standard of India (14 Sep 2009) had a comment that Imperial College London, UK, was looking at setting up Imperial College branch campuses in China, India, Singapore, and the UAE.
Plans sound like they are very tentative at present. Dubai could be an obvious choice for a UAE location but Abu Dhabi or Ras Al Khaimah might be considered also.
A report on 13 September 2009 in The Herald of Scotland had comments from Dr Tariq Ali about possible collaborations between the Abu Dhabi Masdar Institute and Scottish universities. Dr Ali was a former director of the Imperial College London and is now Vice President of the Masdar Institute. Whether that link results in an Imperial College Abu Dhabi remains to be seen.
