The Swiss International Scientific School In Dubai (SISD) Plants 500 Ghaf Tree Seeds: UAE’s Theme For Year Of Tolerance 2019

The Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai (SISD) plants 500 Ghaf Tree seeds, as part of Earth Week, and in line with UAE’s theme for the Year of Tolerance 2019.

Electrolux Group and Goumbook joined SISD students to talk about the heritage and importance of the Ghaf Tree as part of the ‘Give a Ghaf’ initiative. SISD’s Founder Omar Danial planted the first tree as a symbol of the nations’ Year of Tolerance.

The Ghaf Tree is part of UAE culture and was declared the national tree of the UAE back in 2008. The Ghaf is considered to be a multipurpose tree providing its many uses such as fodder, fuel, timber, gum or resin, tannin or dyestuff, medicine, reclamation and intercropping.

Sheikh Mohammed said, “Tolerance is a universal value, and Ghaf is our authentic national tree, it is a source of life and stability in the middle of the desert. Under its shadow, our ancestors gathered to discuss matters related to their daily lives. In the ‘Year of Tolerance’, we chose the Ghaf as a logo so that we live by the principles of tolerance, coexistence and diversity.”
